krautfuzz is a Berlin based supergroup consisting of Dirk Dresselhaus (Schneider TM, faust, die Angel, Angelicus, Locust Fudge) on voice, guitar and effects. Imari Kokubo (Piratezombiedog, Orangutan, Numb, Teleferik) on drums and Derek Shirley (The Still, Hotelgäste, Tango Toy, Unununium, Monno, Vladislav Delay Quartet) on bass and effects. The group is also on Erototox Decoding’s sister publishing imprint MirrorWorldMusic. krautfuzz, more often than less, features live guests including Murat Ertel (Baba Zula), experimental sax-player André Vida, J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) and more recently Chandra Shukla (XAMBUCA, Travelogue, Psychic TV) and label boss of Erototox Decodings for their record release of 5, including a release show at Berlin’s West Germany club in Kreuzberg on November 23, 2024.
As their bio reads everywhere: “krautfuzz is embossed by an angular-futuristic tension, spanning from fuzzed-out neo-psych-rock to abstract, heavily processed minimalism to pure noise, and is open at the fringes.”
What this means is that krautfuzz is not another “krautrock” band. Their intention is to marry the progressiveness and tradition of krautrock with modern concepts of improvisation, collaboration, the utilization of noise, ambience, minimalism and to break the formulaic monotony of rock and roll while still utilizing it’s vehicles as prescribed by Lou Reed (guitar, bass and drums). The use of heavy fuzz, other effects and the three distinctly unique musical backgrounds combine to form a very unique delivery overall. Krautfuzz’s conquest is to overcome the repetition and dregs of rehearsal as every note iterated by them is a raw instinctual impulse that can only stem from improvising everything and compromising nothing.
